Three-Dimensional Impact Embossing is a classic finishing technique that physically raises your design above the surface of the card, creating a striking 3D effect. Using a custom-etched male and female metal die set, we press the Premium Stock between them to reshape the paper fibers.
The Mirror-Image Principle: It is important to note that true Embossing is a physical displacement of paper. This means that while your design is beautifully raised on the front, it will create a corresponding recessed (debossed) impression on the reverse side. This “Mirror-Image” effect is the hallmark of authentic, traditional embossing and adds to the tactile prestige of the card.
Blind Embossing: The design is raised without the use of ink or foil. It relies entirely on the interplay of light and shadow on the material’s texture—such as Premium Pearlescent Stock or 100% Cotton Stock—to create a subtle, architectural elegance.
Foil Embossing: A masterful combination where the raised area is simultaneously finished with Hot Foil Stamping. This creates a sculptural, metallic 3D effect that captures and reflects light brilliantly, often used for premium crests and luxury logos.
For the crispest raised edges, we mandate a minimum line thickness of 1pt for Embossing. Because the paper must stretch to create the 3D profile, we recommend avoiding extremely intricate patterns on thinner stocks to prevent fiber tearing. 100% Cotton Stock and Premium Soft-Touch Stock are our most recommended candidates as they possess the necessary flexibility to achieve high-profile elevations without sacrificing structural integrity.
