Prepare Your Artwork for Custom Printing

Use this guide to prepare files for premium business cards, labels and stickers, luxury envelopes, name badges, custom coasters, foil stamping, debossing, spot UV, die cut shapes, and other custom print projects. If your file is not fully print-ready, you can still send your logo, text, brand colors, rough layout, product photos, or reference images for review.

Basic layout support can be reviewed after order details are confirmed. Complex logo creation, major creative artwork, layout reconstruction, or cancellations after artwork support starts may require a separate artwork fee.

Quick Checklist

Before You Send Your Files

These are the most common file checks for custom print projects. Exact requirements may vary depending on size, paper, finish, and production method.

01

Confirm final size

Tell us the finished size you want, such as 3.5 × 2 in, 85 × 55 mm, square, mini, slim, or a custom die cut size.

02

Add bleed

Extend background colors, images, or patterns past the trim edge so the finished piece does not show unwanted white edges after cutting.

03

Keep text inside safe area

Keep logos, names, contact details, QR codes, and key graphics away from the trim edge unless the element is intentionally meant to bleed.

04

Send editable or print-ready files

Vector PDF, AI, EPS, or packaged source files are best. High-resolution JPG, PNG, PSD, or TIFF files can also be reviewed when vector files are not available.

05

Outline or embed fonts

Convert text to outlines or embed fonts before exporting, especially for logos, names, small typography, and brand-specific typefaces.

06

Separate special finishes

Foil, debossing, embossing, spot UV, white ink, and die cut lines should be supplied as clearly named layers, pages, or mask files.

File Setup

Recommended Artwork Setup

For standard business cards, a common setup is 3.5 × 2 in finished size with 0.125 in / 3mm bleed on each side. For international cards, labels, stickers, luxury envelopes, name badges, custom coasters, die cut pieces, or custom packaging items, send the finished size and we will confirm the correct bleed and safe area.

Color Mode CMYK preferred. Pantone / spot color codes can be reviewed for brand color matching.
Resolution 300dpi or higher for raster images, textures, photography, and background artwork.
Vector Artwork Best for logos, icons, foil masks, deboss masks, cut lines, and sharp typography.
Upload Size ZIVFY quote forms support large artwork/reference uploads up to 200MB total.

How to Mark Foil, Deboss, Spot UV, and Die Cut Areas

Premium finishing usually needs more than one flat print file. Please separate each physical process so our production team can review it correctly.

Foil Stamping

Supply the foil area as a separate vector layer or mask. Use solid black artwork for the foil area and name the layer clearly, such as “Gold Foil”.

Deboss / Emboss

Mark pressed-in or raised areas separately. Blind deboss, foil deboss, and emboss should not be mixed in the same layer unless clearly labeled.

Spot UV / Raised UV

Provide a separate UV mask showing only the glossy or raised coating area. Fine lines and very small text may need review before production.

Die Cut Shape

Cut lines should be vector paths on a separate layer. Mark trim, fold, score, hole, or cut-out areas clearly before submitting the file.

Not Print-Ready?

You Can Still Start a Quote Request

You do not need perfect production files to ask for a quote. Send whatever you have: logo, text, brand colors, previous card photos, rough layout, material references, product photos, or screenshots of effects you like.

1 Send your project idea

Tell us the product type, size, quantity, material direction, and finish requirements.

2 Attach files or references

Upload artwork, logos, photos, sketches, or screenshots through the quote form.

3 We review production feasibility

We check file quality, finishing areas, size, material compatibility, and next steps.

FAQ

Artwork Support Questions

These answers are general guidelines. Final production requirements may change depending on paper, thickness, print process, and finishing method.

Can I submit a quote request without final artwork?

Yes. You can send your logo, text, brand colors, rough layout, reference images, or screenshots. We can review the project direction before final production files are prepared.

What is the best file format for printing?

Vector PDF, AI, or EPS files are preferred for most custom print projects. PSD, TIFF, JPG, PNG, and other reference files can also be reviewed when needed.

Do I need bleed for business cards?

Yes, if your background, color, image, or pattern reaches the card edge. For a standard 3.5 × 2 in business card, 0.125 in / 3mm bleed is commonly used.

How should I prepare foil or spot UV areas?

Please separate foil, spot UV, deboss, emboss, white ink, or die cut areas into clearly named vector layers, pages, or mask files.

Can ZIVFY help adjust my artwork?

Basic layout support can be reviewed after order specifications and payment are confirmed. Complex logo creation, major creative artwork, layout reconstruction, or cancellation after artwork support starts may require a separate artwork fee.

Can I send Canva files or screenshots?

Yes, they can be used as references. For production, we may ask for a high-resolution PDF export, editable source file, vector logo, or clearer artwork depending on the project.
